Life Is Like a Box of Bulletpoints

  • My body declared war on me earlier this year. I've had a lot of minor but annoying issues that aren't even consistent from one week to another. Most afflict my GI system or neck and back and only respond moderately to medicine and other remedies, then go away or at least get better after a week or so.
  • After attending the Democratic State Convention in support of Obama, I spent a month or so away from politics. Just as I started to get involved again, a job fell in my lap, so I now work four afternoons a week (plus occasionally online) for the campaign of a local candidate.
  • Rather than quickly getting sick of politics, I find that I'm loving it even more. But what I love isn't so much the machinations behind the scenes and the poll-watching strategy. I like the conversations.
  • My long distance relationship has been dealt the Death card. As any tarot novice can tell you, Death doesn't have to mean finality, but continuing on requires a pretty radical transition. We won't know which will be the case until this weekend, in, of all places, Amarillo.
  • Kare's new apartment is spectacular. And I can't wait to try out the new bed. It's waist-high and very soft, so interpret that any way you like. :)
  • I'm beginning to leverage clients for a side business. I'm trying to work up a business plan that stretches from simple web design to tax preparation but that will still allow me some time to write. I've been full of ideas all summer, but almost no follow-through.
  • I am craving a social life. Not dating or sex (well, not often), but time spent sitting down and talking with cool people. All of my friends are spread far and wide, and I keep wanting to throw a party, but I have no idea when or how I could pull one off, especially since my free time will become more and more rare as we approach the election.

I like Blogger a lot.  You can have multiple blogs (a political one, a personal one, etc.); you can make the blog private/author only, or "regular," and you can invite others to be authors in your blog as well (if you'd like a political blog with several authors, for example).

You can write posts and save them to be edited/posted later; Blogger's dashboard is pretty nifty in my opinion.  Also, a bazillion people have Blogger blogs, and most of them are thinking adults (which is not necessarily the case here in Xangaland... there are some great people on here, but there are also a bunch of 13-yr-olds...)

Wordpress is pretty nice too, but Blogger is more user-friendly.  I think the olny advantage Wordpress has over Blogger (that I have discovered so far) is that Wordpress gives you a word count on your post (as you're writing it).

@ReinaCristina -

Thanks for the tips. Do you know anything about the established political blogs: Burnt Orange Report, Daily Kos, presumably there are others? I was just thinking if I start a political blog this late in the election, it might be nice to have a built-in audience, you know?

Tarot can be funny cant it! Often gives a wake up call or brings something to our attention that we were otherwise trying to shove under the carpet. Good luck with your 'death card' and i should be finding out this weekend or shortly after if my 3 x 'empress' means new beginnings creatively....or something else...

@FreeNotFurry - I've heard of Daily Kos, but that's about all I know about it.  Marcy got me hooked on Google Reader, which makes reading blogs much more efficient, and Google will suggest blogs for you based on your preferences/ other blogs to which you've subscribed, which would be an easy way to find other political blogs, where you can comment and draw attention to yourself

I am really jealous of you political work. I wanted to do some Obama work but I am always out of town due to my real job. Oh well, hopefully he won't need my help, and my word of mouth has worked on a few people at least.
